About this course
Glaucoma
is a group of diseases that can damage the eye's optic nerve and result in
vision loss and blindness. It is one of the main causes of blindness. However,
with early treatment, you can often protect your eyes against serious vision
loss. Therefore it is very important that it be diagnosed. There is no cure for
glaucoma yet. However, medication or surgery can slow or prevent further vision
loss. The appropriate treatment depends upon the type of glaucoma among other
factors. Early detection is vital to stopping the progress of the disease.
Glaucoma is sometimes called the silent thief of sight. Knowing the risk
factors, diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma is important for every eye care
professional.
